Emergency Services and Acute Care at Manatee Health in Florida

No one plans for a sudden, stressful trip to an emergency room – but you should know what to expect once you get there. During any acute-care treatment, patients with more severe emergencies tend to receive the most immediate treatment. A triage approach ensures all emergency patients get quality care as quickly as possible, based on the severity of the injury or illness.

Emergency services providers can order blood tests on an urgent basis and results may be available within one to two hours, while you’re still waiting in the emergency department. Some  laboratory test results may take longer.

Emergency room vs urgent care?

Unless a condition is life-threatening, a trip to urgent care may be a better use of the patient's time and resources to treat minor injuries, fevers, infections and other ailments. Urgent care centers may have shorter wait times than an ER and may cost less than a traditional hospital emergency visit.

An emergency care department, on the other hand, provides comprehensive care for severe illnesses and major injuries. Cardiologists and emergency room surgeons will coordinate care with members of the team, such as emergency department physicians, to help guide patients toward recovery.
